My formative years were spent in a small old fashioned Essex maritime village. The surroundings and characters that inhabited them seemed to be a magical enchanted land. This has had an influence.

The work is rooted in the English slipware tradition; however it is both contemporary and intertextual, using many references.

My intention is a poetic interaction with the materials, a conversation with clay. Where is it going? I have no idea. Following a trail of rationale that isn’t necessarily rational, to reconnect with the magical enchantment experienced as a child.

Most people say that it makes them smile and I like that.
